A Historic Latrobe Pub Serving the Community Since 1870

The Lucas Hotel is more than just a local pub — it’s part of Latrobe’s story. With a rich history dating back to 1870 and a strong connection to the community, we’ve grown from a colonial watering hole into a welcoming space for food, events, and good company.

150 Years of Local Hospitality in Latrobe

The Lucas Hotel has stood proudly on Gilbert Street since 1870, making it one of the oldest pubs in Latrobe and a long-standing part of northern Tasmania’s story. Originally built to serve the growing number of settlers arriving in the area, the hotel quickly became a social hub — a place to rest, gather, and share a drink.

From the early days of timber and trade to the evolution of Latrobe as a regional centre, the Lucas has remained at the heart of the community. Its colonial stonework and classic architecture speak to its past, while its walls hold the stories of generations who’ve passed through its doors. It’s more than just a pub — it’s a local landmark shaped by the people who’ve kept it going for over 150 years.

Today, the Lucas Hotel blends the character of its history with the warmth and simplicity of a modern country pub. Whether you’re here for dinner, drinks, live music, or a private event, our focus is on good food, genuine service, and creating a space that brings people together.

Our menu celebrates fresh Tasmanian ingredients, and our bar is stocked with local wines and craft beers. The beer garden and back bar are favourites for casual catch-ups, while our private function spaces offer the perfect setting for birthdays, meetings and special occasions.

Still proudly local, the Lucas Hotel is a place where past and present sit side by side — welcoming regulars, first-timers, and everyone in between.
